Element #47: Silver, Ag

I came across this website with some interesting facts about silver while researching electrodes in glass. Check them out! Here’s one fact:

“United States coinage minted prior to 1965 contained 90% silver. A bag holding $1,000 face value of pre-1965 dimes, quarters and half-dollars contains approximately 715 ounces of silver.”

HOLY WOW!!! I just looked up the current rate for silver, and that’s approximately $30 an ounce. So following the above example, ~715 ounces x ~$30/ounce and the $1000 face value of coin is actually worth $21,450. Wow!

Really, click the above link for some other interesting facts about silver! Also, linked facts are only some of the interesting facts about silver. Try wikipedia and google if you want to learn even more!
